Agaves

Agaves are long lived succulents native primarily to desert and mountainous regions of Mexico and the southwestern United States. The taxa represented here are largely derived from populations occurring within USDA Hardiness Zones 6 to 8. When planted in sharply drained substrates and full sun, these agaves have demonstrated consistent year round outdoor performance in the maritime climate of Victoria, BC. Their geometric rosettes, glaucous foliage, and physiological drought tolerance make them particularly suited to architecturally driven landscapes and specialist collections.

Agave americana

Commonly known as the century plant, a large dramatic architectural succulent with blue/grey leaves. A mature rosette typically reaches 4 to 6 feet in height and spreads 6 to 8 feet wide.

Agave americana variegata

This large, architectural evergreen succulent featuring dramatic grey-green leaves with creamy-yellow margins and sharp terminal spines thrives in full sun and well-draining soil.

It reaches 5–6 ft tall and up to 8 ft wide. It is highly drought-tolerant,, low-maintenance, and ideal for sheltered rock gardens or containers.

Agave americana mediopicta alba

Large architectural agave with thick blue gray leaves. One of the most cold hardy agaves that is well suited to PNW conditions. This agave gets 3-4 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide.

Agave ovatifolia ‘Frosty Blue’

Agave parrasana ‘Meat Claw’

This compact, slow growing agave gets 1 foot tall by 1 foot wide. It's blue green leaves with dramatic red hooked spines form a tight rosette. Excellent specimen for rock gardens and containers.

Agave parryi var. huachucensis

A robust, cold-hardy, evergreen succulent known for its dense, artichoke-like rosettes of broad, blue-gray leaves, valued for its architectural interest in desert and rock gardens. Individual rosettes typically grow to 18–24 inches tall and 2–3 ft wide. It spreads by producing offsets (pups) to form dense colonies.

Agave parryi var. truncata

Artichoke shaped rosette with squared blue gray leaves and bold teeth. This variety stays small but produces many offsets eventually forming a dense cluster. Very cold hardy agave excellent for containers.

Agave ‘Mr. Ripple’

Fast growing agave with undulating green blue leaves that will grow 3-5 ft tall and 6-8 ft wide. This visually striking hybrid is a cross of A. salmiana and A. protoamericana
